More About Our Timber Orangeries

A timber framed orangery is a great way to add extra space to your home. A timber orangery consists of timber window frames and doors at the sides and a flat roof with a separate timber glazed roof lantern set into it. With the roof being separate from the framing, there is much more scope for different designs and shapes of building without making the roof too complicated or fussy, as might happen with a similarly designed conservatory where the roof joins directly to the framing. It’s even possible to have a timber orangery or garden room with two or more separate roof lanterns of different shapes and sizes. This means that you could have, for example, a combined kitchen and dining room orangery, with a lantern above your dining table and another above your kitchen workspace, giving you wonderful, naturally lit spaces to cook and entertain.

A timber orangery can be designed either with brick pillars between frames or in corners of the building, with full timber side framing or with only part of the side walls glazed which leaves you with wall space for radiators, televisions or the like. The flat roof element of a timber orangery not only makes the inside space feel more like an extra normal room than a conservatory, but makes it much easier to install lighting which will make your orangery a comfortable, usable space all day long. The lighting combined with the exceptional insulative properties of the flat roof mean that you can use your orangery without a thought even in the middle of winter when a conservatory might be too dark or cold to enjoy.

Our timber orangeries can be designed in a range of decorative styles. It is possible to have ornate timber cornicing and detailing to the fascia running around the top of your orangery, including dentil mouldings and panelling details if desired. It’s also possible to add features like decorative pilasters, glazing bars in straight or curved designs, leaded or patterned glass, and a whole host of other extra traditional features. Conversely, a minimalist, modern design is also achievable when working with a more contemporary building. This design flexibility means that no matter when your home was built, we can design and manufacture a stunning timber orangery to complement your home. Our orangeries have also commonly been fitted to listed buildings without issue. For listed or traditionally-styled buildings, a timber orangery is the natural choice, as timber orangeries have been in use for around the last 400 years whereas uPVC and aluminium framing have only seen widespread use in the latter half of the last century.

We can supply and install, alternatively if you would prefer to install the orangery for youself we can supply a timber framed orangery kit with full assembly instructions.
